Her mother had also denied her access to medical assistance, when experts had established during the trial that many of her scars would have required hospitalisation or treatment. The court had heard that on a number of occasions, the victim had approached social services, teachers and the police, but was not believed. She said: “The jury were sure that you had subjected the victim to years and years of not just punishment, but abuse, disguised sometimes as punishment for perceived infractions.” Her Honour Judge Freya Newbury said that despite Beeko’s claims that she was a “wonderful mother” who had never beaten her children, the truth was “hideously different and extreme”. This “punishment” was inflicted after her young daughter had refused to take her cod liver oil tablets, which she did not like.

The victim had been left with permanent scarring from a number of beatings, including a scar on her forehead which expert analysis determined had come from a belt. In what was described as a particularly “sadistic” occasion, Beeko had rubbed the concoction over her five-year-old daughter’s anus after she had shaken her bum at someone who had visited their household. On some occasions, she had brandished a knife whilst carrying out the evil act, and had threatened to “cut her legs” if she didn’t acquiesce. In what had become known as the ‘ginger punishment’, she would mix together a concoction of chilli and garlic and spread it over her daughter’s genital areas, causing “excruciating pain”.

The court heard that between the years of 1979 to 1991, she had repeatedly abused her young daughter at their home in Lambeth, often beating her with a frying pan, a tennis racket and a sink plunger.
